The semi-wild nature and nobility of the ponies which roam the fells of the Upper Eden Valley and Westmorland Dales, seem to me to capture something of the spirit of the area. They are, at once, protective of its wildness and beauty, yet gentle, grazing peacefully like this one I encountered on Stennerskeugh Clouds.
