Often, atop the dry-stone walls or boundary fence-posts close to the roadways of Upper Eden, red grouse can be seen. Less often, is it possible to creep close enough without disturbing them and risking their flight before being capturing their image. One frosty January, I chanced upon this red grouse which was not inclined to move; I managed to get close enough to get a sharp photograph, revealing not only the beauty of its patterning but also the moisture on its leg feathers!
