Climbing Midland Bank heading south out of Kirkby Stephen, I love looking across to the lynchets, remainders of an ancient, Iron Age strip field system. Probably helping to maximize the agricultural use of the land, these vertical rows are not commonly seen in the north of the country but serve as a clear reminder of the age of the farming community in Eden. Incredible!
