High Cup Nick, North Pennines

The iconic backdrop to Appleby-in-Westmorland and amazing geological formation of the Pennine Way, High Cup Nick, cradles the best glaciated valley in Northern England. This image captures the beauty of the grey-blue dolerite crags and scree which seem to be reflected in the colours of the cloud formations and accentuated by the greens of the valley sides. Having walked the ridge, I always marvel at this feature of the landscape and wait for the lighting to highlight it as a photographic opportunity.
